Meet The Team

Paul Bowley was born in Brighton; growing up in Woodingdean he attended Rudyard Kipling Infants then Whitehawk Junior and Secondary schools. In 1980 Paul started work as a coffin maker with W A Stringer & Son in Kensington Gardens, G Newman in Trafalgar Street and Frank Davey of Hurstpierpoint; He moved to Hassocks to establish Bowley Funeral Service in 1999. Paul is a member of the SAIF National Executive Committee, and was their National President in 2017/2018. He has been a member of the Rotary Organisation since 1987.

Sharon Saunders Sharon Saunders is a local girl; born in Fulking, she went to school in Albourne and then Downlands, and has lived in Mid Sussex for her whole life. Sharon married in 1979, moving to Hassocks in 1981 where she has lived ever since. Working for Bowley Funeral Service since 2000, Sharon passed her Independent Funeral Directors qualifications in 2008. Having arranged literally thousands of funerals throughout her career, she is passionate about helping the bereaved.

Berit Hoad Berit Hoad is of Scandinavian descent; she grew up in Burgess Hill and moved to Brighton when she was 20 years old. She previously worked in the travel industry and then for Sussex Police – both in customer service-related departments. Berit moved to Hassocks with her husband and daughter in 2014 and enjoys country walks and village life. Berit joined Bowley Funeral Service as a Funeral Arranger in May 2015 - she finds that being able to help bereaved families through the difficult task of arranging a funeral for a loved one is a privileged and rewarding position.

Sue Vickery Sue Vickery Sue started to work closely with us when we opened our premises in Burgess Hill in 2010. With 38 year’s experience in financial services working mainly for Lloyds Private Banking and A J Bell Securities, Sue is our Finance Director. She also works closely with local families arranging funerals and memorials.
